1. CHESSINGTON DISTRICT RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION NOTICES
( a ) Our
auditor has advised the Chairman that he should not undertake the roles of
Chairman and Treasurer. The Association
therefore asks members to put their name forward for election as Treasurer.
2. MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING
( b )The minutes of the last
meeting were agreed.
3. VISITING MEMBERS QUESTIONS
There were no visiting member’s
questions.
4. MATTERS ARISING
( c) As
yet there is no confirmation of the starting date for the N85 bus route, the
night bus service which will follow the 71 bus route.
( d ) Our association has written to TfL
concerning the standard of service provided on the 71 and 465 bus routes.
( e ) Traffic flow outside the garage at the Ace
of Spades roundabout. Further to the
response from RBK stating that they have no legal jurisdiction over the exits
and entrances to the garage our association has decided to pursue this
important issue further and will raise the matter with the police and the Road
Safety Committee.
( f ) Residents have requested that our
association asks the Safer Neighbourhood Police team to use their radar gun to
enforce the speed limit in Devon Way where there is currently a problem with
speeding motorists.
( g ) There was further discussion about the
dangers posed by the cyclists using the footpaths. Instances were reported of local cyclists ‘jumping’ traffic
lights and pedestrian crossings. It was
noted that the ‘no cycling’ on the footpath signs are too high off the ground,
often over six feet. These issues will
also be raised with the Road Safety Committee.
( h ) Flooding in Sussex Road and Cheshire
Gardens. Our correspondence with RBK
and other related issues will be discussed at our September meeting.
5. NEW ISSUES
( i ) Mr Peter King the Treasurer for Chessington
Youth Action (CYA) attended the meeting
and described the work of his organisation. CYA has been established for 10 years and has developed its work
in the last 2 years. They support young
people from the age of 16 to 18 years old by ensuring that all are able to
access beneficial activities such as sports, and are not denied such activities
because of financial reasons. This has
required many fund raising activities.
The object is to provide numerous activities which will help get
children off of the street. There is
limited financial help from the Council and the organisation works in
cooperation with other youth clubs and the Scouts. Our committee confirmed that we will be making a donation of £200
to support their work and that the cheque will be presented at a public meeting
at which the press will be present.
6. PLANNING
APPLICATIONS
( j ) 204, Leatherhead Road. To re-site an existing ventilation
duct. We have no objection.
( k ) 52, Rollesby Road. To convert a ‘granny annexe’ into a one bedroom house. We have no direct objection but will respond
stating that we are concerned that if successful this application could set a
precedent which maybe deleterious in the future.
(l ) 51, Thrigby Road. To change the division of the rear gardens
between properties. Before we could
investigate this application was refused.
( m) ‘Preswylfa’, Green Lane. An amended planning application to demolish
the existing structure and build a two story house has been submitted and
passed by the planning department.
( n ) 44 – 60, Leatherhead
Road. To demolish the existing buildings and replace them with:- 12 x four bedroom houses, 9 x 5 bedroom
houses in five blocks with parking and landscaping. We will object on the grounds of excessive development.
( o ) 30 – 32, Somerset Avenue. This site is on the corner of Somerset
Avenue and the properties have very large gardens. A planning application has been made to demolish the existing
buildings and build ten new houses.
. We will object on the grounds
of excessive development.
